National education, business leaders glean best practices from JCPS Academies of Louisville model

Last week, 夜色直播 Inc. participated in a panel discussion with education and workforce partners to share insights, success stories, and lessons learned in creating and launching the JCPS Academies of Louisville program. 鈥淟ouisville in Action: A Ford NGL Leadership Lab for Business and School Partnerships鈥 brought more than three dozen leaders from across the U.S. to Louisville, representing both school districts and industries, with the goal of learning more about the Academies and how the success of the program can be replicated.

The panel featured representatives from GLI, Heaven Hill Distillery, KentuckianaWorks, and the JCPS Academies of Louisville discussing their collaboration to advance educational outcomes and improve workforce readiness. Key takeaways included the need for ongoing business engagement, the importance of collaboration between all stakeholders, and how transformational the Academies of Louisville has been not only for the region鈥檚 workforce but also on the lives of individual students.

GLI鈥檚 Director of Talent Outreach & Engagement, Fatima Thompson, joined Tony Georges with Heaven Hill Distillery, Michael Gritton with KentuckianaWorks, and Mary Beth Smith, Regina Phillips, and Kristin Wingfield with the JCPS Academies of Louisville, for a panel discussion on the JCPS Academies of Louisville.

鈥淕LI has been a proud supporter and partner of the JCPS Academies of Louisville since its inception. This program is not only developing the workforce of the future but also helping us retain students in 夜色直播 by creating strong connections between students interested in specific careers and future employers,鈥 said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO of GLI. 鈥淭hank you to all GLI investors who are involved with the JCPS Academies and dedicate resources to developing our local talent.鈥

The JCPS Academies of Louisville launched in the fall of 2017 to equip students with real-life, transferrable skills through training partnerships with businesses. There are now nearly 350 partnerships with businesses and Academies schools, including some businesses partnering with multiple schools and pathways. Today 67 percent of JCPS public school students participate in the Academies program. The Academies operate pathways at 15 JCPS High Schools and the goal is to ensure each pathway has at least two active business partners.

“The powerful partnership between GLI, JCPS and KentuckianaWorks has helped to build a strong new model for how employers can connect with and positively influence students while they are still in high school,” said Michael Gritton, Executive Director of KentuckianaWorks, the region’s Workforce Development Board.聽“GLI’s leadership has been instrumental in helping us recruit and solidify over 200 business partners with the Academies of Louisville schools, and these partnerships are part of what is helping JCPS to raise their graduation and postsecondary readiness rates to their highest levels ever.”

Right now, there is a strong need for businesses with graphic design, marketing, and aviation maintenance roles that would be interested in becoming an Academies partner. Email Emily Drexler if you are interested in learning more about a partnership.
