“Our Power to Prosper Business Accelerator is truly driving inclusive economic development in ҹɫֱ. Since its inception, the Accelerator has helped more than four dozen businesses grow their revenue, operations, and impact,” said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, President and CEO of GLI. “Thank you to our investors for continuing to support this program, and we look forward to seeing this cohort grow in the program and in the community.”
The program is valued at $15,000 per individual but is offered free to participants thanks to the support of Papa Johns and Beam Suntory. During the bi-weekly sessions, participants expand their skill base in areas such as financial management, marketing and sales, human resources, access to capital, and contract development. The program curriculum is based off Interise’s Street Wise ‘MBA’™ model, which uses a peer-learning method to provide small business owners with the knowledge, know-now, and networks necessary to grow and scale.
“Every year it is rewarding to watch these entrepreneurs learn and grow through the curriculum of the Power to Prosper Accelerator. Not only will this program help grow 17 small businesses in our region but the focus on assisting entrepreneurs from historically underrepresented populations is truly breaking down systemic barriers in our community.” said Dana Johnson, Vice President of Economic Inclusion at GLI.
Power to Prosper is part of GLI’s economic inclusion work, within the Prosper 2030 Strategic Plan. Participants are surveyed one year after graduation on their business’ results and progress. Results from the first two cohorts include:
- 125 jobs created or retained in total
- 79% following the growth plan they developed in the program
- 58% average revenue growth for businesses
- 30% received financing to help grow their business
- 96% hired from the local community
