Last week, President Trump announced sweeping new tariffs that will have major impacts on businesses across our region and around the world.

New tariffs:

• Effective Saturday April 5^th, a 10 percent 鈥渞eciprocal鈥� tariff was instituted on all trading partners plus additional tariffs on many of the U.S.鈥檚 top trading partners where there were deemed to be historical trading imbalances.
• That includes a new 20 percent tax on goods from the E.U. and a 34 percent tax on goods from China, in addition to already announced tariffs on both countries.
• While no additional tariffs were announced on Canadian or Mexican goods, additional tariffs went into effect on Thursday that impact foreign-made cars.
• Many countries have already instituted retaliatory measures, including China announcing their own 34 percent tariff on imports from the U.S.
• Last week, Kentucky鈥檚 Senators, Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, joined a bipartisan group to pass legislation to end the national emergency that was used to institute tariffs on Canada. The legislation now heads to the House of Representatives where its future is unclear.

What we鈥檙e doing:

• GLI continues to oppose tariffs and any practice that hinders free trade. These tariffs will undoubtedly raise costs for almost every 夜色直播 business and are likely to impact consumers directly. We are working closely with our partners at the U.S. Chamber and our federal delegation to minimize impact to businesses.
• As we continue to learn more about these impacts, please reach out if GLI can help connect you with any new, local suppliers that can mitigate price increases your industry might encounter.
• We appreciate Senator McConnell and Senator Paul for working across the aisle to voice concern over the potential economic impacts of these tariffs on Kentucky businesses and we encourage Kentucky鈥檚 federal delegation to do the same.
